Vespers is a comic about growing up in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) circa early 2000s as a second-generation-ish Russian-American. 

ROCOR was established in the 1920s by immigrants that left Russia during the time of the revolution and Soviet regime. The culture-preserving church community is often used as a landing pad for new emigres from Slavic nations.

The term “vespers” refers to a set of prayers said at the beginning of the liturgical day, which starts around sunset.
